Is it feasible to develop a novel laparoscopic surgical technique for cholecystectomy utilizing only transumbilical incisions? Is cholecystectomy performed through laparoscopic incisions placed within the umbilicus technically feasible and safe? Will the development of advanced flexible instrumentation and visualization platforms facilitate this new operative approach?
